Health and Safety Courses at Sandville Self Help Foundation, Bridgend

This current week has seen us delivering our basic health and safety courses to staff and volunteers of Sandville Self Help Foundation in Bridgend. They are a charity based organisation supporting people with life limiting and life changing conditions.

Day one was Emergency First Aid at Work. This course allows us to train people in skills such as the primary survey, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). We cover a number of injuries and illnesses that people may have to deal with in the workplace and other environments.

Day two and we split the group and took two trainers. Steve held the Level 1 Fire Awareness course whilst Paul took the Level 2 Fire Awareness course which trained people in the Fire Warden duties. Both courses had the chance to carry out live fire extinguisher training which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Then on to day three and we carried out a manual handling of inanimate objects course. This highlighted the issues to a person of poor manual handling procedures and keeps them safe when carrying out future movement and handling of objects. We will be back for future training of staff and volunteers to carry out safe movement and handling of people when the lifting equipment is installed in the therapy pool area.
