Pulse Safety Solutions team members have experience of successfully managing complex rescue situations in the United Kingdom and in diverse international theatres. This has equipped our personnel with the analytical and practical skills to provide bespoke solutions for clients. This, coupled with our passion for safety in challenging environments sets us apart from other companies. Our standby rescue provision covers confined space, working at height, and water safety teams to ensure you are supported and kept safe at all times.

Steve Cooper

Director

Steve’s adult working life started at the Commando Training Centre in Lympstone Devon in 1989 where he trained as a Royal Marine. He remained in the Marines until 1994. In January of 1995 he joined Gwent Fire Brigade and served 28 years in operational and training roles. His roles have included the delivery of training to operational fire service personnel including core skills and technical rescue. Steve’s operational roles have included Watch Manager, Station Commander and finally ending his career as Group Manager Operations Department, leading stations within two unitary authorities.

Steve has been fortunate to have been developed into a number of specialist roles including Water incident Commander, wildfire officer, Fire Service NILO, Tactical Commander, working at Bronze, Silver, and Gold, and as a Fire investigation Officer working with colleagues from Police and CSI.

In the last 10 years Steve has had the opportunity to deliver a variety of training to industry, both in the UK and abroad. These have included Energy and Utilities, National Infrastructure Industry, MOD, Civils, Public Health England, NHS, Emergency Services, and light industry. 

The training delivered has included First Aid, Trauma Care, Water Rescue, Manual Handling, Bariatric Rescue training, Working at Height training including Rope Rescue and Access, and City and Guilds Confined Space training. Steve has been able design and deliver several bespoke training programs for customers.

With his knowledge and experience Steve has been able to work in a consultative role across a variety of industries and the public sector.

Steve is proud to be one of the Directors of Pulse Safety Solutions Ltd where we pride ourselves on our knowledge, experience and the ability to be able to deliver a high quality product to our customers.

Jim Coles

Director

Jim served for 27 years in the Fire & Rescue Service before retiring in 2022 and has gained comprehensive experience from significant operational incidents and exercises in the UK and international theatres. Jim has predominately worked on busy technical rescue stations throughout his career, retiring as station commander of one such station.

Jim was a Team leader/ trainer planner in the Welsh Urban Search and Rescue Team and as a USAR instructor had the reference for training and development of this highly successful team. His USAR competencies include Confined Space Supervisor, Line Access instructor, Hot cutting instructor and water rescue supervisor.  He has over 20 years instructional experience and has delivered to emergency responders, non-blue light emergency services, and private and public sector audiences both nationally and internationally. As a member of the United Kingdom International search & rescue team (UKISAR) Jim has experience of capacity building projects across the globe.

Jim is also a Road traffic collision instructor, Hazardous materials advisor, and water incident manager. He also holds the NEBOSH general certificate

He served for 7 years as a L/Cpl in the Royal Engineers before joining the Fire service, operating in theaters worldwide.

Paul Simmons

Director | Health & Safety Manager

Paul served over 28 years in the Fire & Rescue Service, retiring in 2021 as a Station Commander. He gained comprehensive experience from significant operational incidents throughout the United Kingdom and international theatres. Paul was a member of the UK International Search and Rescue teams’ response to the New Zealand earthquake in 2011, assisting in rescue operations within the Christchurch region. He has previously deployed to Tajikistan as part of a capacity building team, training local rescuers. He also visited Cape Town, South Africa as part of UK ISAR’s CPD program, responding to major trauma patients with the city’s emergency medical service response team.

Paul has an ILM Level 5 award in Leadership and Management and a Diploma in Technical Response and Incident Management for Specialist Rescue. He is a trainer in various skillsets including Urban Search and Rescue, Rope Rescue, Water Rescue, a Road Traffic Collision Instructor, and Immediate Emergency Care. He has over 22 years instructional experience and has delivered to emergency responders, non-blue light services, and private and public sector audiences. Paul is an established Confined Space trainer and assessor delivering to various sectors throughout industry. He also delivers First Aid, Manual Handling, Fire Awareness and Abrasive Wheel training.

Paul is responsible for the health and safety management for Pulse Safety Solutions. This ensures we are compliant in all aspects of occupational safety, health, and wellbeing, keeping our team and clients safe whether we are providing training or a standby rescue provision.

He served for 4 years in the UK Armed Forces as a Royal Engineer and has an interest in endurance events, successfully competing in the world renowned ‘Marathon Des Sables’.
